What we offer

GCSE Study Groups

The GCSE study groups (2-6 students) run weekly and are tailored towards the exam boards of students within the class. They support the study of the History GCSE curriculums and are open to Year 10 and 11 students. The aim is to provide a focused accompaniment to the History studied at school and allow students to become familiar with the skills required for specific GCSE questions.

There is a tight focus on GCSE skills. However, the aim is for students to interact with the dynamic historical events and fully engage with the content. They will participate in a variety of activities which develop skills and confidence

In each session, we will look at individual GCSE questions from past papers. In many instances, these will be completed in timed conditions within the study session. Each student will receive individual feedback for each piece of work completed.

Each student will be provided with a resource pack for each module including mark schemes, past question papers, full skill checklists, and summary sheets for every topic.

Allow One hour & a half for each session. We aim for one and a quarter hours, but these invariably overrun with timed questions and individual feedback.

Each module runs for 10 weeks.

Study Group Topics:

Listed below are the established modules which are running presently. However, there is some flexibility. If you would like support with other topic areas, get in touch and we can discuss the options.

Bookings are for 10-week modules. Catch up sessions can be arranged if a student misses a week.

Individual Sessions

One to One sessions can be arranged in person and online. These can be arranged weekly (depending on availability) or on an ad-hoc basis for specific needs. Examples include:

Essay Technique: There may be a specific skill you wish to perfect. We can look at essays you have already written, or provide guidance with essays from scratch. (Key Stage 3, GCSE, A level).

Easter Revision

Revision days or half days will be scheduled at the start of the Easter holidays. This allows students to benefit from the resources and skills in their revision over the holidays. If you would prefer individual sessions please get in touch and we can arrange these according to availability.

A Level Support: Coursework & Essays

Individual lessons can be arranged to help with A level topics and skills. This includes support with coursework structure and assessment objectives in addition to exam essay and source analysis techniques.

A’ level Study Groups

UCAS: Personal Statements Guidance

Applying to university is an exciting time in a young person’s life. Support with writing Personal statements can help students draw upon their experience and skills and portray these accomplishments effectively for admissions tutors.

I have worked as Head of Sixth form, Head of Year in the Sixth form and liaised with admissions tutors across British Universities (role as Post 16 co-ordinator). Since moving to become Head of History, I have continued to be a Sixth form tutor, helping students apply to university and writing references.
